Error analysis done right in Inertial Navigation

I first obtained a copy of this book in the mid seventies (last century). I was in the process of attempting to develop a unified error analysis for an inertial navigation problem. I looked through the existing literature and textbooks, at that time, and felt that there were some fundamental mistakes and awkward assumptions being make. I estimated that it would have taken me about 6 months to develop a systematic general theory.
However, upon reviewing some of the literature, especially with respect to error analysis associated with local vertical navigation, many of the papers referred to Kenneth Britting's book. I ordered the book, and got through it in a day or two. Wonderful. I had been struggling with my own derivations, so I was able to digest the material rather rapidly.
In the introduction, Section 1.3 - A Critique of Previous Analysis Techniques, Dr. Brittting is very gentle in his critique in his assessment of other previous approaches used to develop perturbation equations of motion. I would have used descriptions like: erroneous, artificial, opaque, etc.
I recommend this book to anyone who is going to be working in depth in the field of inertial navigation. This is an excellent starting point for development of estimators and filters, especially since the underlying theory relies predominantly on a linearized development (perturbation equations).
This book, obviously, will be suitable for only a small audience. But I consider it central and essential to the problem of error analysis in the field of inertial navigation.

This is a classic text or book that contains material that anyone pursuing Navigation Systems should know before branching into more modern concepts. It contains material that is not found in modern books.

Glad it was republished!

I used a copy of this book in my graduate studies on inertial navigation systems in the early 90s. The book was out of print then, and our instructor received permision to make copies from his original for us. I have used the reproduced pages so many times they are falling out of the binder! I was happy to see they republished this. It is the essential inertial navigation book for those in the field.
