Get the EBook as the Searching Functionality will really help you succeed. In book examples really make this text stand out.

The book is easy to read, relevant and informative. I personally don't like accounting but find this book as a great resource for my Accounting 215, first accounting class at the University level. I do enjoy ebooks as the capabilities allow for searching. I give this book a 4 instead of a 5 because of value. A majority of textbooks don't meet my expectations for Price and Quality, ergo "Value" and this book is no exception. Written by some of the great professors at the University of Washington, I utilized this electronic edition to pass my Online Financial Accounting Course. The searching abilities were beyond helpful, the examples of T-Accounts and financial statements presented in this text were a godsend and attributed to me getting a 3.0, which is a decent grade at a R1 Research School and taking a self-paced Accounting course which I never had experience in my life. I made it into business school with help from some of the concepts I learned from this book.

I first read this book maybe 6 years ago. I had purchased it on the way to take my granddaughters to the dentist...needless to say I did not mind how long I had to sit and wait on them...I laughed out loud and snorted throughout the first story...loved it and the second story...I have reread this story yearly and loaned out my book so much that it is looking a lot worn and decided to have it FOREVER in ebook form...If you are looking for a heartwarming and engaging book, look no farther...completely entertaining as are all for Marin Thomas's books....BUT THESE SET IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE

Organic chemistry for fun

I bought this book and another Organic chemistry for dummies book because I had never learned this stuff in college. This book is way easier to understand than the dummies book. I have given up on that book all together and have continued to read this one. The way this book is written seems to make sense to me, but there are some difficult things that I have to re-read.

AMAZING FOR A SMALL BOOK!!!

I had the first version of this text before upgrading to this new one. This book is amazing in the amount of material that it covers in such a small package. As a teach yourself guide this book is very good and it is about ten to twenty percent cheaper than a textbook. I am a huge fan of organic chemistry and biochemistry and have had two textbooks and currently own the Klein "Organic Chemistry." The combination of this book along with the Klein textbook is, in my opinion, a very good combo for self instruction. This book, "Organic Chemistry Demystified" is very helpful for self study as the primary textbook also - in my opinion.

Better explained elsewhere?

This book does not simplify Organic Chemistry at all. Its every bit as complex as a regular textbook. The only reason to buy this one instead is that its cheaper. I studied Organic Chemistry for Health Sciences at university. This book is more complex than that course. I'm hoping the Dummies books are better explained than this one. If you need an advanced book on Organic chemistry, this may be for you. It wasn't for me.

ACLS was a success

I PASSED. Let's just say I was super nervous. This booked helped me along with algorithms and medications. I bought a separate thing online (not affiliated with the AHA to help me with rhythms), this book has very little on heart rhythms but identification of them is important for knowing what to do in a code. Overall having the book was a big help.

Great book by The American Heart Association. Everything very well explained and very clearly. It does take sometime to go through the contents and organize the info. It brings labels that you place in every session for easy finding as you review the materials.

Pretty useful

This book should be purchased (or borrowed) by people who already have some basic founding skills in drawing wildlife, or life in general. It does start you out with circles, cones and boxes, but it then jumps straight to detail. So, if you're not that far yet in the process, don't buy this, or you won't learn anything from it, for it is the next stage in developing your talent!

The instructions are somewhat limited, but again, the book assumes you're already learned in the drawing process.

The illustrations are nice, starting with bone and muscle structure, which teaches you where hollows and points are underneath all that fur and that fluffy animals are not just a big pile of it. They are also simple enough to make you feel like you are on the same level, without overwhelming you with tiny details and "I could never draw that" illustrations that you find in some books.

The information given about each particular species and families of animals are keen and teach you how they would behave naturally (very good information for drawing action poses!). It also advises to go to parks and zoos to observe your subject, to get a feel of how they move and act. The author also encourages the artist to "let loose" once in a while and add some style and flair to their drawings (think Disney animals!).

Overall, a very good piece of learning material that I think most young artists should have within their reach (I am 20).

An excellent guide to drawing AND nature

J.C. Amberlyn is a fine wildlife artist whom I have been watching evolve for almost 10 years, both for her nature art and her cartoon characters (love you, Space Chicken and Space Weasel!). This book does not tell you the magic secret of J.C. Amberlyn's incredibly lifelike animal art--that spark that animates each and every one of her drawings, no matter if it's unfinished or not. But it's the closest she can come, and she shares her unique artistic viewpoint and her 20+ years of wildlife studies with you with no holds barred. I understand that the publishers cut out a lot of her discourse on each animal's habits--too bad, because that was as entertaining as the drawing lessons in the preview edition I read some months ago. A second book, please, with the edited materials and more? But I digress.

I am not an artist. I have trouble with stick figures. However, "Drawing Wildlife" gave even me some hope that with a little (lot!) of practice, I can draw something that someone besides my husband will recognize. My first bear (p.86) was actually overtly bear-esque, in fact. My daughter, who draws well, did even better, and my mother, who draws even better than my daughter, produced a wonderful bear on her first try from Amberlyn's directions.

Amberlyn uses traditional art teaching methods such as uniting shapes with lines to form a coherent whole--except, when she's doing it, that cougar that consists of 1 circle, 4 lines, 2 rectangles, one triangle and 3 ellipses already has an animated, lifelike pose. As I said, magic! (See page 54). Also, I don't know how she does it, but no matter how unfinished the drawing around them, the eyes she produces stare at you right from the page (pp 22, 34). That's the wonder of J.C. Amberlyn, and although I can't make it happen yet, as I said--this book gives me hope!

I can't recommend it highly enough for those who actually can draw. I think you'll see your own magic flow from your pencil in very short order. Way to go, J.C. Amberlyn!

More expensive version of Jack Hamm

The book is all right. I learned a few extra things that I didn't learn from Jack Hamm's How to Draw Animals. But I kept feeling like I was reading Hamm's book a lot. If you don't have a lot of money, Hamm's book will give you just as much for almost half the price.

And both books should really be called How to Draw Mammals. There's nothing about reptiles, birds, or fish in them.

An important update to understanding Irish manuscripts

The Book of Kells has long been considered one of the greatest art pieces of human history, and rightfully so. It was not properly studied until the mostly black and white Urs Graf reproduction of the early 1950s, and then seriously updated with the 1974 Thames and Hudson color work of 1974. In that volume Francoise Henry detailed the results of two decades of study that confirmed my research for a doctoral dissertation on the palaeography and calligraphy of the book and its antecedants. Now, in an even finer study of the book (that is best used with the excellent Trinity College CD reproducing all pages), we see the depth of material in the codex and its relationship to both Irish culture and the wider celtic cultural diaspora. Bernard Meehan, who has published an earlier, less scholarly volume on the Book of Kells, has given us an essential resource that permits a wide audience to explore and comprehend the glory of this work. No one interested in Irish art or fine manuscripts should be without this first class study.

Beautifull illustrated version of the Book of Kells

Although I have not yet read the book cover to cover, it is exactly what I was expecting: a beautifully illustrated version of the Book of Kells. The external wooden case protects it and fits it well, while the pictures bring you the details of the Kells pages (that you’re not allowed to take from the original book). This is also supposed to be the most thorough book out there about the Book of Kells, as the author spent over 30 years studying and decrypting the book.
Congratulations to author and publisher for this one.

Saul Bellow (1915–2005) is the author of nearly twenty works of literature, including Seize the Day, The Adventures of Augie March, The Victim, Herzog, and Humboldt’s Gift. He taught at the University of Chicago and Boston University. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1976.

Adam Kirsch is a senior editor at the New Republic and a columnist for the Tablet. He lives in New York City.

Henderson the Rain King

This is the BEST book I've read in ages. I found it so thoroughly engaging, I couldn't put it down! Eugene Henderson, a great (often) drunken oaf of a man--rich, somewhat crass, a man who does not suffer fools gladly and makes life for his wives and children difficult--chafes at the restraints of a sophisticated, civilized existence in New York and makes his way into Africa. Once there, all his innate qualities--sheer strength, his instincts, rashness,while drawbacks in an artifical social world--serve him well in the natural world. He encounters princes, kings and hired guides, who he treats with equal respect. Africa gives him an arena to test himself, quench his thirst for an answer to the internal (and for him, eternal) question that eludes him throughout his life: I want, I want, I want. Through his journey, he finds out what he really wants to do with the rest of his life and comes out of this adventure with a greater sense of who he really is. Saul Bellow makes Henderson and his experiences so real, the reader feels as though he or she is there, seeing it all through Henderson's eyes. I think this book is a gem, a completely entertaining read.

What Makes Life Meaningful?

Gene Henderson, a 50-something millionaire living in 1950s America, decides to take a trip to Africa to try to quiet the voice inside him that keeps saying "I want, I want." Since Henderson already has everything material he could want, he can't find any way to satisfy that voice, and he has already tried several other things prior to his African trip. I'm not sure what Bellow intended, but as I read it, Henderson represents America - huge, crude, often well-meaning but causing destruction nevertheless. Bellow's imaginary Africa would then be the entire developing world - or even the whole world outside America. It's hard to like Henderson at first; even his own first-person narration casts him in a bad light. As his attempts to help the people in the first tribe he meets end in catastrophe, he seems to represent the American ignorance and arrogance that led to so many disastrous overseas projects in the 1950s and 1960s. Subdued by his first failure, Henderson allows himself to learn from the second tribe, and although he ultimately barely escapes with his life, he comes away with the inner peace he had sought, with a new wisdom, and with a determination to become a healer. The message seems pretty obvious.
An alternative way to read it makes Henderson representative of anyone who no longer has to work for a living and who searches for something to give life meaning. This should resonate with any young dot com millionaire as much as with any healthy retired person. Either way, the book reads smoothly and moves along briskly. Read it long enough to get past your initial dislike of Henderson, and it will reward your efforts.

Hooray for humanity

The title character of Saul Bellow's "Henderson the Rain King" is one of the most remarkable personalities in modern literature. Most first-person narrators just kind of lay on the page, passively hoping the reader will sympathize with or care about them; but Eugene Henderson is a three-dimensional creation, arrogant, energetic, restless, engaging the reader with his lively banter and gleeful impudence.
55-year-old Henderson is a millionaire by inheritance, aimlessly sleepwalking through life, married to a ditzy wife, and channeling ancestral spirits by playing his dead father's violin. Needing a vacation from his family and his dreary normal existence, and feeling that "...it's the destiny of [his] generation of Americans to go out in the world and try to find the wisdom of life," he travels to Africa and impulsively decides to go off into the wild.
A hired guide named Romilayu leads him to two remote villages. The first is inhabited by a tribe called the Arnewi. He observes with delight that the Arnewi village must be older than the city of Ur -- this is what he was looking for, the cradle of civilization, unblemished by the advances of modern society. Here he finds the natives in a crisis: their precious cattle are dying of thirst because the water in the village cistern is undrinkable. On his own initiative, he tries to solve their problem; but his plan fails disastrously, and he and Romilayu leave the village in shame.
They go to a second village, inhabited by a larger tribe called the Wariri, ruled by a king named Dahfu. The Wariri are suffering from a drought and go through elaborate rituals in order to conjure rain. When Henderson unexpectedly helps them bring a deluge, Dahfu proclaims him the "Rain King" and the two become close, almost brotherly, friends. Henderson learns that Dahfu cannot have complete sovereignty over the tribe until he captures the lion containing the soul of his dead father, the former king, and Dahfu asks Henderson to help him in the hunt. But human corruption knows no geographical boundaries, and Henderson and Romilayu soon find themselves in a dangerous situation from which it will require all their physical and mental capacities to save themselves.
More refined and terser than "The Adventures of Augie March," "Henderson the Rain King" offers a wonderfully balanced mixture of philosophy, suspense, and humor. While Augie wandered through life looking for a purpose, a goal, Henderson seems to find his, affirming it through his own adventures and taking the reader along for the exhilarating ride. You'll be cheering for the guy, not because he's the hero, but because he's more human than most of the people you know.

okay if you need to review

This is the First A&P book I have tried to read, and it was recommended by one of my instructors as a good book to learn the material. I think this book is good for review, or as a guide to the material I should learn, but not a good learning tool for fist timers. I have found myself reading very dense paragraphs of information, and then looking up the terms on line to learn them and understand the concepts. In short good review, but not good if this is all you have to learn from.

Nothing too special, its def not the most in depth but it covers some good topics and serves as a good second opinion if you cant understand what other books say..

if the price is reasonable, theres no harm in purchasing something that may help you understand it in another way and also serves as a good review book that doesnt weigh 10 lbs
